Accessibility statement for FloodSense
This statement applies to the FloodSense web application used by Lead Local Flood Authorities to maintain their flood-asset register and review Earth-observation condition signals.
Our commitment
How accessible this service is
The service is designed so that you should be able to:
- navigate the whole application with a keyboard;
- operate it with a screen reader;
- read text against backgrounds that meet AA contrast ratios in the light theme;
- resize text up to 200% without loss of content or function;
- understand map-based information through accompanying lists and tables, not colour alone.
Interactive map layers are inherently visual. Where a signal is shown on the map it is also available as text in the asset list, the worklist and the audit trail, so no decision depends on seeing the map.
Known limitations
We are aware of the following areas and are working to improve them:
- fine-grained panning and zooming of the map can be difficult by keyboard alone; the same assets can be reached from the list view;
- some uploaded site photographs may not carry descriptive alternative text until the inspector adds a caption.
Reporting accessibility problems
If you find a problem that is not listed here, or you need information in a different format, contact the service team at accessibility@floodsense.example. We aim to respond within five working days.
Enforcement procedure
The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) enforces the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018. If you are not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).
Technical information about this service's accessibility
FloodSense is committed to making its service accessible in accordance with the 2018 regulations. This service is partially compliant with WCAG 2.2 AA because of the known limitations listed above. We assess compliance through a combination of automated testing and manual keyboard and screen-reader checks, and we commission an independent audit before each major release to a customer authority.
This statement was prepared as part of the buyer compliance pack. The customer-facing date, named contacts and audit results are completed when the service is deployed to an authority.
